WatchDog Wire: How Do We Stop the Runaway Locomotive?

Even Bill O’Reilly is shouting, “Here comes Socialism!”

O’Reilly’s Talking Points recently used the words Socialism and Communism to describe the out-of-control federal government which, like a runaway locomotive, is thundering down the track of soft tyranny on the way to complete control of our lives.

Can the runaway locomotive be stopped by the movement to define and ratify Mark Levin’s Liberty Amendments to the U.S. Constitution before tyranny is the new normal?

The Marxist locomotive left the station over a hundred years ago. With stops at the New Deal and Great Society depots, it has picked up steam adding Progressive freight and passengers. The freight cars now carry the heavy load of Amnesty, Obamacare, Debt, Deficit, and Gun Control, plus Unions, IRS and NSA abusive power, while the passenger cars carry Democrat and Republican Progressives sitting side-by-side enjoying the exhilarating ride.

The breakneck speed of the runaway Progressive Express is terrifying to those who cherish freedom and wonder if there can pragmatically be a way to block the oncoming catastrophe.

Michael Farris, constitutional attorney and head of the Convention of States Project (COS), urges us to move quickly to use the Constitution itself:

“When the states act together in a Convention of the States, they can unilaterally propose amendments [like the Liberty Amendments] that will be returned to the States for ratification. Neither Congress nor the federal courts can stop them. The governor cannot stop them. The President cannot stop them. The state legislators hold all the levers of power. This is not mere shouting at the locomotive: it is erecting a mountain of solid granite in the train’s path. When a locomotive hits a mountain, the mountain wins.”

Stepping back for moment, this becomes a kind of “civil war” pitting the Progressive cities, stoking the fire inside the locomotive, against the non-urban legislative districts that make up the heartland of conservative America. Can enough state legislatures work in-concert in-time to build the mountain of solid granite Liberty Amendments to withstand the crash that is coming?

This is the ultimate grassroots challenge.
