The Iran Project – America’s Enemies Within

It’s no secret that the Obama Administration is against new sanctions for Iran. Obama wants Iran to go nuclear. It’s as simple as that. He is staying true to his Islamic roots and keeping his promise to the Mullahs. It’s all part of his plan to help with the destruction of Israel and America.

Enter The Iran Project. A cabal of pro-Iranian advocates who just happen to be a who’s who of liberal former U.S. officials (i.e. Progressives/Marxists), who are forwarding a new movement (well, they’ve been around sort of since 2002) that is aimed at killing bipartisan legislation once and for all that would increase sanctions against Iran if it violates any part of the brand spanking new nuclear accord (which in itself is a farce). The Iran Project is a shadowy group that has deep ties to Tehran’s top US advocates and they have deep, deep pockets:

The Iran Project went live on Monday with an anti-sanctions letter signed by a who’s who of liberal former U.S. officials, many of whom have long advocated to roll back sanctions on Iran and increase diplomacy with the rogue regime.

The letter, which quickly gained traction in some foreign policy circles, urged Sen. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.)—one of the chief architects of the new Iran sanctions bill—to back off his bid and let the bill die.

Liberal outlets such as the Huffington Post and others have also gone after Menendez in a bid to force him to abandon the bill, which is hotly opposed by the White House but supported by 48 senators.

The Iran Project claims that the new sanctions bill would “move the U.S. closer to war” with Iran.

The missive is signed by former ambassadors Thomas Pickering and Ryan Crocker as well as by former National Intelligence Officer Paul Pillar and several other foreign policy experts known for taking a soft line on Iran.

Pickering and Crocker in particular have been outspoken opponents of sanctions, while Pillar has accused pro-Israel groups of “sustaining” Iran’s nuclear program.

“We urge you to take a second look at this legislation, accept that you have achieved your objective of putting down a marker for Iran, but not press this bill to a vote,” the letter states. “You do not sacrifice any of your options by doing so. Negotiators now need a chance to continue to their work.”

They are buying just enough time to let Iran go nuclear, while blaming and labeling the victim, Israel, as a warmonger. The communists are nothing if not predictable. Lest you think this is just a few radical loons pushing this, think again. There is a very large network of pro-Iranian groups pushing to kill sanctions against Iran. I’m sure they’ve all been compensated very nicely by the regime.

It should also not come as a surprise that the primary funding agent behind all of this is the Ploughshares Fund, who is a partner with the Institute for Policy Studies, which in turn is not only connected to Barack Obama, but that old spider, George Soros. You see the players on the board don’t change, just the evil focus of the moment. Ploughshares teamed up with the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) late last year in a lobbying bid meant to stop new sanctions. The Iran Project was started in 2002 by the United Nations Association of the USA and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and became an independent project under the auspices of the non-profit organization Foundation for a Civil Society in 2009. During the past decade the core members of The Iran Project have been Stephen Heintz, William Luers, William Miller, Thomas Pickering, Jim Walsh and Frank Wisner.

This isn’t their first attempt at stopping sanctions and strengthening Iran, but this time, it may just work unfortunately:

“These are many of the same foreign policy experts who opposed the toughest Iran sanctions that got us to this point,” Mark Dubowitz, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) tweeted on Monday.

Others cautioned against taking seriously this latest anti-sanctions lobbying bid.

“This is a group run by people who support Iran, are celebrated by the Iranian media, and are deeply embedded in a network of organizations that have consistently sought to weaken the U.S.’s leverage in attempting to denuclearize Iran,” said one senior official at a Washington-based pro-Israel group.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has also been trying her level best to kill sanctions against Iran:

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) has become a major obstacle to a new bipartisan Iran sanctions measure, according to multiple sources on Capitol Hill and in Florida.

Wasserman Schultz has broken with leading pro-Israel Democrats like New York Senator Chuck Schumer and New Jersey Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, privately urging her fellow Democrats to follow the White House’s lead by opposing a bipartisan House resolution backing new sanctions on Iran, according to multiple congressional sources close to the debate.

Wasserman Schultz is notoriously anti-Israel and is toeing the Obama Administration’s party line. Few remember that she had a staffer that made slurs against Israelis not so long ago. Her constituents are not happy with her:

Wasserman Schultz’s backroom bid to kill the sanctions measure has angered some Democrats on Capitol Hill and in her hometown of South Florida.

“Debbie has been busy at home telling her constituents she is doing all she can to stop Iran, but in reality it appears she is busy behind the scenes working to scuttle bipartisan action to put increased sanctions pressure on Iran,” said one Democrat on Capitol Hill who is closely tracking the Iran debate.

“Every minute she is publicly silent, or working against bipartisan efforts to pressure Iran, is a minute she is siding with the Mullahs over the American people who overwhelmingly want mounting pressure,” said the source, who asked for anonymity.

Sources inside Wasserman Schultz’s heavily Jewish South Florida community say that the lawmaker’s opposition to strengthened sanctions has become a “problematic position” for her constituents.

Wasserman Schultz has become “one of the two problems in Florida in regards to support for those sanctions,” according to one South Florida Jewish community insider.

The other Democratic opponent is Rep. Alan Grayson (Fla.), according to the source.

The concern is so great that Jewish community leaders in South Florida scheduled a meeting with Wasserman Schultz for early this week, the insider said.

The South Florida Jewish community’s concerns have reverberated in D.C., where senior Jewish community officials and others have been quietly expressing frustration over Wasserman Schultz’s bid to kill the new sanctions measure.

“She’s being very careful not to say anything publicly while working hard behind the scenes to jam up the legislation,” said a D.C. Jewish community insider involved in the political debate over sanctions.

While talking tough on Iran, she is supporting the murderous regime behind the scenes. Actions speak louder than lies Debbie.

Make no mistake… The Iran Project and its enablers such as Wasserman Schultz, are America’s enemies within. Americans need to call them out and clean House and Senate in 2014 before someone parks a nuclear weapon on the White House lawn.
