FoxNews is reporting that early this morning an unnamed work boat or barge hit an oil well near Bayou St. Denis, Louisiana. The boat/barge reportedly sheered a valve, causing the pressurized gas and “a fair bit of oil” to spill. Information is sketchy but “The U.S. Coast Guard, Jefferson Parish police and fire officials, as well as Vessels of Opportunity boats have all been dispatched to the scene.”

Gulag Bound will be monitoring for updates.

UPDATE: By Tuesday afternoon,  a rusty-brown spray blew out from the sheered well. Though now being contained by boom surrounding the well, it continues to pollute the local waters of Barataria Bay, Louisiana with a mixture of gas and oil. Barataria Bay lies between Bayou Lafourche, Lousiana to the west and the Mississippi River delta to the east. So far, the boat/barge that is alleged to have hit the oil well remains unidentified.
