Ron Paul in a Landslide?

Before anyone gets their knickers in a knot, let me hasten to say that the headline for this article is in reference to a “USA Today” poll that I took recently — and yes, Ron Paul did indeed win my poll in a landslide.  The results took me by surprise.  Link

The online poll weighed your answers to various questions against the answers given by the different 2012 Presidential candidates and tabulated the results.  The results of my poll looked something like this:

1. Paul (just under 70% agreement)
2. Bachmann (just under 50%)
3. Gingrich (just under 49%)
4, 5, and 6. Santorum, Perry, Huntsman — in that order (all close – around 45%)
7. Romney
8. Obama

As you can see, Ron Paul did not win my poll in a “squeaker” — he won it walking away.  This left me to wonder if I should take a more in-depth look at the Ron Paul candidacy – nay-saying pundits notwithstanding.  Link  Link

I will do just that.  I will perform due diligence checking out Ron Paul’s credentials.  Up front I can say that there has been one thing especially that has bothered me about Paul, and that is his strict Libertarian stance regarding religion — but I may come to terms with that, depending on what a more substantial analysis of his views  comes up with.  After cursory research it appears that Paul opposes any national policy regarding God — pro or con — simply because he believes that such questions are best left up to the individual states to decide.  Link  Link

Personally, I can live with his position on that for the time being, if it means that the many other issues crying out to be addressed will be taken care of — and Paul seems like he may just be the one to take care of a number of them.  Link

Regarding downsizing the federal government and with it our mind-boggling debt, Ron Paul has a long track record of being just what the doctor ordered.  He has been warning us about the dangers of a bloated government, the Federal Reserve, lobbyists and banksters for years.  Link

As far as the other candidates go, I do not have much to say at this point — except that I am disgusted with the blatant manner in which TPTB are trying to force conservatives to “choose” between Romney and Gingrich.  It is not that I especially dislike either one, but I do not see either of them as representing the radical change that America so desperately needs at this point in time.  Link

In addition, Mitt Romney has this little matter of his standing as a Natural Born Citizen (NBC), as required by Article II, Section I of the US Constitution.  Through either ignorance or cupidity the media and most political hacks have ignored the fact that Romney may well be ineligible to run for POTUS (or VP for that matter).  Link

First McCain and now Romney — if I did not know any better I would think that the political elites were purposefully muddying the waters by presenting us with candidates to run against Obama who have suspect NBC credentials.  Link  Link

Obama's Oath of Office Redux

If not being Natural Born disqualifies Obama from being POTUS (“Once a Brit, never legit”), then “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” and I’m afraid that Romney’s eligibility must be examined as well.  To hear the political pundits tell it, heck darn near anybody can run for POTUS.  The pundits are wrong though.  Link  Link

“We the people” need at least one state to have the cojones to stand up to the establishment and declare Obama ineligible to run for POTUS in 2012.  New Hampshire recently failed to uphold its laws in this regard; next up in the batter’s box is Georgia.  Those who oppose knowing the truth about Obama’s eligibility, those who mock and chase after birthers — the afterbirthers — can mock and ridicule all they want, but the truth will out.  Link  Link

Obama — the Campaigner in Chief — is not a Natural Born citizen as the US Constitution requires the POTUS to be.  According to what little we “know” about him, Obama is a US citizen (barring his having been adopted by Lolo Soetoro), and even a native born citizen (born on US soil with at least one parent American), but as his father was a British subject at the time of Obama’s birth he cannot be a Natural Born citizen (born on American soil to two US citizens).  The subject has been covered well, and in depth ad nauseum, so I will not discuss it any more just now.  Suffice it to say that Obama is not eligible to be POTUS, and everyone knows it but the clueless afterbirthers.  Link

Be that as it may, for all of my talk about the 2012 elections I have serious doubts about whether free elections will be held at all.  The fact that Draconian laws recently breezed through Congress; that Homeland Security feels that patriots are the real threat to America, and that the current administration cannot bring itself to put the words “Islam” and “terrorist” together, leads me to believe that things are looking very grim indeed for freedom in America these days.  Link  Link  Link

Have I decided which candidate I would like to see receive the Republican nomination?  No I have not, but due to the results of my “USA Today” poll I will certainly be taking Ron Paul more seriously.  Granted at first blush his image is not all that “presidential,” and perhaps he doesn’t send thrills up your leg, but we have seen what getting suckered into buying a stylishly packaged, hip, slick, and cool candidate got us the last go-round.  Link

There are Republican candidates that I like, and some that I am not so fond of, but I would take any of them over Obama in a heartbeat.   May we be so blessed as to have a chance to vote for them next November.  Link
