The Days of Rage non-event came and went Saturday. The overall conclusion was basically a giant meh… Instead of the publicized 20,000 purported to show, I understand it was between 700 and 1,000 in number. Not bad for a bunch of anarchist, Progressive hippies, but not exactly the end of America as we know it either. I heard wild reports of half a million and others of 5,000. I would put my money on the low end though.
You had the usual calls for throttling big business and wealth redistribution that Marxists are known for. There were a couple of passionate bullhorn rants on how tearing down the whole system is what America really needs. And then there was yoga in the park. You could hear the massive yawn from America as a whole from coast to coast as if to say, “Is that all you are bringing to this dead man’s party?” Impressive fail.
The protesters were blocked from marching on Wall Street by the NYPD, but they still continued onward. You had a wide assortment of the disaffected. Code Pink was there, the usual Israel-haters were in attendance, those who want money for nothing and chicks for free (or something to that collective effect) were enthusiastically marching in lock step as well. Democratic Socialists of America were there chanting: “The workers, united, will never be defeated.” There were about 25 of them. Another impressive fail.
The rabble rousers did call for revolution though:
We call for workers to not only strike, but seize their workplaces collectively, and to organize them democratically. We call for students and teachers to act together, to teach democracy, not merely the teachers to the students, but the students to the teachers. To seize the classrooms and free minds together.
Comrades in arms, no? Two were arrested for wearing bandannas on their faces and trying to illegally enter a Bank of America I believe. No one bothered getting permits. Hmmm… Permits must only apply to Conservatives and Tea Party groups.
Sigh… Don’t you people have something better to do? Like look for work or start a business?
But this is just the first in a series of protests. More to come in Chicago and other places and there was one in Seattle on Saturday as well. And they have supporters from multiple quarters, both confirmed and unconfirmed. Anonymous is the biggest backer, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find others funding these movements and the Democrats seem to support these protests. But if Russia Today was actually hoping for a great turnout and maybe a little mayhem, they were very disappointed.
But, don’t be fooled by how lame all of it appeared… There is real anger and outrage out there. And it is building. As America slips into a depression, that anger will mount and mount if nothing is done. It could very well boil over on both sides as the American Fall takes hold.
All of the protests, the anger, the suffering, can be attributed to our current administration. Obama is spending us off a cliff. While there are good and bad corporations out there, it is Progressive leadership that has led us down a debt strewn path towards a Cloward and Piven cliff – and Obama is waiting there with his comrades to push America off to her doom on the fiscal rocks below. With glee I might add. So the Days of Rage are just beginning. Never underestimate the potential for mischief from a bunch of petulant “fully-entitled” anarcho-wannabes.
One of my favorite authors, Mark Steyn, described the end of America in a succinct and colorful way. From his incredibly awesome book, After America:
A is for ADDICTION
We spend too much, borrowing from the future to such an extent it’s no longer clear we’ve got one.R is for REDISTRIBUTION
Day by day, an unprecedented transfer of wealth from the productive class to the obstructive class is delivering a self-governing republic into rule by regulators, bureaucrats, and social engineers.M is for MONOPOLY
Old ruling class: “We the People.” New ruling class: “We the People who know better than you frightful people…” America is ruled not be a meritocracy but by a cartel of conformicrats imposing a sterile monopoly of outmoded ideas.A is for ARTERIOSCLEROSIS
“Yes, we can”? No, we can’t! By comparison with the past, America is already seizing up.G is for GLOBAL RETREAT
As Britain and other great powers quickly learned, the price of Big Government at home is an ever smaller presence abroad. An America turned inward will make for a more dangerous world.E is for ENGINEERING
“Celebrate Diversity”? The ideological homogeneity and social engineering of the nation’s schools would be regarded as child abuse in any other age. Aside from its other defects, it diverts too many Americans into frivolous unproductive activity, while our competitors get on with the real work.D is for DECAY
Mired in dependency and decline, much of the United States will be on a fast track to the Third World. And, no matter how refined the upscale communities the elites retrench to, it will prove increasingly impossible to insulate yourself from the pathologies a decadent liberalism has loosed to rampage Godzilla-sized across the land.D is for DISINTEGRATION
We are becoming the highly singular United States of America. No advanced society has ever tried hyper-regulatory direct rule for 350 million people. Will it work? Or is it more likely that increasingly incompatible jurisdictions and social groups will conclude that the price for keeping fifty stars in the flag is too high? Without the American idea, there will be insufficient glue to hold the United States together.O is for OPEN SEASON
Do you find it hard to imagine a world without America? The Russians, the Chinese, and the would-be New Caliphate don’t. And on a planet where rich passive nations are defenseless while every failed state from North Korea to Sudan is butching up, it’s not hard to figure out what comes next.N is for NUKES AWAY!
Addiction, Redistribution, Monopoly, Arteriosclerosis, Global retreat, social Engineering, Decay, Disintegration, Open season, Nukes away. Put them all together, they spell…?From Big Government to busted government, from federally regulated school bake sales to Armageddon – in nothing flat.
So, the event Saturday was merely anarchist theater – call it the Days of Stage. But that was only the opening act. The real production is the American Fall. If we don’t clean house of the Progressives in our midst on both sides of the aisle, America will fall hard and fast at some point. It won’t be a genteel slide into decay as Europe has done. No, we are a world power and you know the old saying, “The bigger they are, the harder (and faster) they fall.”
Terresa Monroe-Hamilton administrates the Noisy Room blog, where she documents the influences of those politically off the American course, called progressives. She is also a contributor to KeyWiki.org and her articles are featured in the daily Web publication, The Globe & Malevolence.
Looks like a poor investment by the Soros Tryst, Terresa.
Not as bad an ROI as our tax money going into “green jobs,” but very, very poor.
According to the Livefeed at the protest on Sunday evening, the protesters themselves said they had about 1200 on Saturday and 600 on Sunday.
