Update: Why the March for Life is Necessary, Year 38

Update report from LifeSitenews:

‘Scores’ of victims of ‘House of Horrors’ abortionist tell of forced abortions, lifelong injuries

Today the pro-life activist organization Operation Rescue emphasized that Gosnell’s abortion facility is merely one of the few “house of horrors” to be caught, as they released a report exposing Gosnell’s connection to the Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The report, says the group, reveals a “web of death” between Gosnell, co-arrestee Eileen O’Neill, and Delta Clinic’s owner Leroy Brinkley, who also owns the Atlantic Women’s Services abortion facility in Wilmington, Delaware.  Gosnell was employed at Atlantic Women’s Services one day per week, and O’Neill, who pretended to be a licensed physician, was employed by both Gosnell and Brinkley.  She was arrested along with Gosnell last week.

The report also implicates again the National Abortion Federation, which claims Brinkley’s Louisiana and Delaware facilities as proud members.

A group of attorneys has threatened to sue the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals if it does not immediately order the Delta Clinic closed for violations that mirror squalid conditions found at Gosnell’s Philadelphia abortion mill.

“Certainly Gosnell’s mill is not the only ‘house of horrors’ in operation.  He is just one of the few that has been caught,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.  “Horrific conditions and practices exist at most abortion clinics, and in fact, we have yet to find even one that obeys all the laws.

The fact is that those who describe themselves as “pro-choice” are so radical in their views that they have vehemently, immediately. and litigiously prevented any and all regulation and inspection of abortion providers and facilities.  They have also prevented medically accurate information to be given to women prior to their “procedures” as is required for all other medical procedures. As a result a multitude of of women and children have suffered and died.

Women deserve to be treated with respect; informed of the risks of every medical treatment, given full disclosure of their medical condition and they deserve to have the finest medical and infection control conditions in any facility licensed by the state.  The legitimate function of government is to protect its Citizens, especially its weakest and most vulnerable and provide for the common good.

We salute the more than 100,000 champions who yesterday came from every corner of our nation and marched peacefully in the frigid Washington streets to bring the plight of the helpless into the light of public scrutiny.  Woe to the “news reporters,” editors and TV stations who will neglect their duty to report this valiant, selfless and humane event.

Until these most basic duties of the States are met, until women are told the truth; we will continue to March for Life.  The 50,000,000 babies killed and countless women killed, maimed and decimated is enough!

Doctor charged with eight murders

Dr. Kermit Gosnell was charged with eight counts of murder and related charges, after the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office sent their investigation to the Grand Jury. Gosnell owned an abortion clinic that officials termed a “butcher shop”.  Babies that were carried beyond the 24 weeks were aborted by the doctor, police said. The clinic was located near 38th and Lancaster Aveenue in west Philadelphia.

The investigation also revealed that untrained and unlicensed people were acting in roles beyond their capacity, including the allegation of  having teenagers administer anestetics.  Some of those have been listed as codefendants. They include Kermit’s wife, Pearl  who was charged with performing illegal abortions and performing abortions withourt a liscense. and  Adrienne Moten and Lynda Williams, who were also charged with murder and held without bail.

Gosnell is alleged to have severed the spinal cords of infants, causing them to die. During his arraignment, Gosnell seemed confused by his charges and had a hard time understanding why he was being held without bail.  His co defendants were held from between $150.000 to 2 million bail, depending on the allegations against them. Those co defendants charged with murder are being held without bail.

Women: Pa. abortions left us sterile, near death

PHILADELPHIA – When Davida Johnson walked into Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s clinic to get an abortion in 2001, she saw what she described as dazed women sitting in dirty, bloodstained recliners. As the abortion got under way, she had a change of heart — but claims she was forced by the doctor to continue.

“I said, ‘I don’t want to do this,’ and he smacked me. They tied my hands and arms down and gave me more medication,” Johnson told The Associated Press.

Johnson, then 21, had a 3-year-old daughter when she became pregnant again. She said she first went to Planned Parenthood in downtown Philadelphia but was frightened away by protesters.

“The picketers out there, they just scared me half to death,” Johnson, now 30, recalled this week.

Someone sent her to Gosnell’s West Philadelphia clinic, at the Women’s Medical Society, saying anti-abortion protesters wouldn’t be a problem there. She said she paid him $400 cash.

A few months after the abortion, she began to have gynecological problems. An examination revealed venereal disease. She blames Gosnell, 69, for the lifelong illness, which she declined to identify, and for the four miscarriages she has subsequently suffered.

Johnson learned last week that Philadelphia prosecutors believe Gosnell frequently delivered late-term babies alive at his clinic, then severed their spines with scissors, and often stored the fetal bodies — along with staff lunches — in refrigerators at the squalid facility. Tiny baby feet, prosecutors said, were discovered in specimen jars, lined up in a macabre collection.

“Did he do that to mine? Did he stab him in the neck?” Johnson asked at her North Philadelphia home. “Because I was out of it. I don’t know what he did to my baby.”

Gosnell was charged last week with killing seven babies born alive and with the 2009 death of a 41-year-old refugee after a botched abortion at the clinic, which prosecutors have called a drug mill by day and abortion mill by night. The medical practice alone netted him at least $1.8 million a year, much of it in cash, they say.

Prosecutors said uncounted hundreds more babies died there.

Unlicensed Abortionist Bertha Bugarin Arrested And Jailed After Botched Abortion Victims Come Forward

San Diego, CA – Bertha Bugarin was arrested on Thursday and jailed in San Diego on ten felonies and one misdemeanor for practicing medicine and prescribing drugs without a license. If convicted, she faces nine years in jail.

Bugarin, who has no medical training, owns five abortion mills in Southern California, including one in Chula Vista, a southern suburb of San Diego. She had been posing as a doctor, performing abortions illegally for $500.

Nine women came forward with stories of botched abortions received at Bugarin’s hand. Many women suffered from incomplete abortions and were forced to return to have their abortions done again. One woman was hospitalized three times, and birthed a live baby that died three hours later.

Bugarin made a court appearance yesterday dressed in blue jailhouse garb and shackled at the waist. She was being held on $500,000 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for July 2.

These charges add to Bugarin’s legal woes. In August, 2007, Bugarin was arrested in Los Angeles after a the police raided four of her clinics. She was charged in Los Angeles County with 18 counts committing abortions without a medical license. Her sister, Raquel, was charged with four counts of aiding and abetting her sister in their illegal abortion operation. In addition one of Bugarin’s hired abortionists, Laurence Reich, was also arrested after he was found to be doing abortions months after losing his medical license for sexually molesting his patients.

From the Arizona Department of Health dated September 29, 2010:
Medical licensing has been busy over the last few months preparing to license Abortion Clinics.  Back in 1999, a law was passed (ARS § 36-449.01 36-449.02 36-449.03) that required ADHS to license and inspect abortion providers if they provide 5 or more first-trimester abortions in a month or if they provide any 2nd or 3rd trimester abortions as an abortion clinic.  Hospitals were exempted.  The 10-year legal battle over how to implement the law ended earlier this year-  with an agreement that we’ll begin licensing and inspecting the clinics beginning November 1.  The new rules are posted in the Arizona Administrative Register, November 6, 2009 (15 AAR 1822).

From the TimesNews Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:

DA: Missed chances to shut Philly clinic abounded

District Attorney, Seth Williams

Regulators ignored report after report of horrific conditions at a squalid abortion clinic, prosecutors said, leaving a trail of missed chances over the years to stop a doctor from performing illegal, late-term abortions that killed at least two patients and hundreds of newborns.

The officials’ failure to follow up on complaints against Dr. Kermit Gosnell came amid a “live and let die” political climate that effectively ended inspections of all abortion clinics in Pennsylvania, according to the grand jury that indicted Gosnell.

{snip}

Nearly a decade ago, according to legal documents, a former Gosnell employee gave the state’s Board of Medicine a complaint that “laid out the whole scope of his operation: the unclean, unsterile conditions; the unlicensed workers; the unsupervised sedation; the underage abortion patients; even the over-prescribing of pain pills with high resale value on the street.”

Nothing was done.

Testimony from the victims of Gosnell:

Victims say abortion doctor scarred them for life

FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Robyn Reid didn’t want an abortion. But when her grandmother forcibly took her to an abortion clinic one wintry day in 1998, Reid figured she’d just tell the doctor her wishes and then sneak away.

Instead, Kermit Gosnell barked: “I don’t have time for this!” He then ripped off her clothes, spanked her, wrestled her onto a dirty surgical stretcher, tied her flailing arms and legs down and pumped sedatives into her until she quit screaming and lost consciousness, she told the Daily News yesterday.

Nicole Gaither got an abortion from Gosnell in 2001. After four days, she said, the pain was so bad she could barely walk. She returned to the clinic, where, she said Gosnell blithely told her he’d left fetal remains in her.

Reported in the Press of Atlantic City , New Jersey and reposted at  RedState:

Health officials inspected only one of the state’s six licensed abortion clinics in the past two years – despite a requirement that they be investigated every other year – before complaints eventually brought inspectors to two of the clinics, a Press investigation has revealed. Those two clinics were then closed immediately due to health violations that posed “immediate and serious risk of harm to patients.”

The investigations of the Alternatives clinic in Atlantic City and Metropolitan Medical Associates in Englewood, Bergen County, marked the first time those clinics had been inspected in six and five years, respectively.

From Kansas:

For several  years, the Kansas State Legislature has proposed legislation that would regulate abortion clinics. The proposed legislation would establish basic requirements for medical equipment, record keeping, staffing, and such. For example, any clinic that performs a second or third trimester abortion must have a sonogram machine and must keep all sonogram prints. The bill would have required that maternal injury and maternal death be reported to the State.

Currently, Kansas abortion clinics are not licensed nor inspected. The current oversight of abortion clinics comes only from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts which licenses doctors but does not inspect nor license clinics, does not set clinical standards, and does not keep records of injuries nor maternal deaths except if a lawsuit is filed.
