Houston Election HQ Warehouse Burnt Down, Days After Fraud Allegations

As Reported in PR Newswire:

HOUSTON, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Today, the King Street Patriots, a group of citizen-volunteers in Harris County, Texas, announced their discovery of thousands, possibly tens of thousands, of incomplete, inaccurate or false voter registrations.  The group, represented by Liberty Institute, uncovered hundreds of properties, including vacant lots and nonexistent addresses, where six or more people claim to live.

“It’s apparent that King Street Patriots discovered voter fraud in Harris County, though we don’t know just how extensive it is,” said Kelly Shackelford, president/CEO for Liberty Institute and a constitutional scholar.  “King Street Patriots is double-checking all registrations leading up to the election, and will be releasing information each week on what they’ve uncovered.  There are those who are trying to intimidate King Street Patriots by attempting to vandalize their office and vehicles and monitoring the location of their offices and work.  It is unfortunate that our clients are now the focus of intimidation tactics. No one should be intimidated or punished for being a good citizen.”

…and from the Houston Chronicle:

Harris County Tax Assessor Collector Leo Vasquez accused a nonprofit group of submitting thousands of bogus voter registration applications in recent months in what he said appears to be a campaign to taint the voter rolls.

Vasquez said his office has received thousands of duplicate applications, including cases in which the office has received six applications for the same person. Other irregularities he cited in the more than 25,000 applications submitted by Houston Votes include cases of underage applicants and people who identified themselves as noncitizens.

“The integrity of the voter roll of Harris County, Texas, appears to be under an organized and systematic attack by the group operating under the name Houston Votes,” Vasquez said.

The group is the voter registration arm of Texans Together, which works to increase civic participation in low-income neighborhoods.

Yet, I didn’t hear about this story to report it to you until I was alerted to a subsequent event by “RJ” from the private forum, Paul Revere’s Riders:

A few days ago we blogged how the Houston voter registrar had a press conference announcing widespread voter fraud and thousands of illegal and phony voter registrations submitted by an ACORN-like organization called “Houston Votes.” Those stories are here and here.

Harris County Tax Assessor Collector [and voter registrar] Leo Vasquez accused the group of submitting thousands of bogus voter registration applications in recent months in what he said appears to be a campaign to taint the voter rolls.

Well this morning Mr. Vasquez’s warehouse containing all of the voting machines, supplies and equipment burned to the ground.

A note of caution: obviously law enforcement officials in Harris County will get to the bottom of this. We are posting this because, for now, Harris County is going to have a mess of an election in November because all of their equipment and supplies have been destroyed.

Reported in Chron:

A fire that destroyed nearly all Harris County’s electronic voting machines Friday has election officials scrambling to re-equip the county for an election in which early voting starts in just 51 days.

Even before the pre-dawn fire was out, County Clerk Beverly Kaufman pledged to hold a “timely election” on Nov. 2 but suggested the county may have to run fewer than its planned 739 Election Day polling stations if it cannot find enough machines.

Because she does not know how many machines will be available for each polling location, Kaufman started appealing almost immediately to voters to cast their ballots early to help avoid long lines on Election Day.

I submit a statement by a patriot in the blog, Asynchronous Information:

MY SACRED BALLOT
Ralph Bushnell Potts

The blood of free men stains my ballot sheet. Whatever others may do, I shall not carelessly make my mark. I vote not because I can, but because I must. Those who died for this, my voice in my Government, had a right to expect that I would use it wisely, honestly, and courageously. They did not die that blind partisans, or the reckless, might make a game of free elections.

Only my secret heart knows whether I justify the definition of “Voter” as they wrote it in the reddening sand. If I love my country as they did, I question my qualifications again and again.

I carefully study the issues and candidates to determine not what is best for me, but for my country.

I will not be confused or deceived by propaganda, slogans, or histrionics. I shield my eyes to the glitter of personalities, purge my mind of passion and prejudice, and search diligently for the hidden truth. I must be free of all influence save conscience and justice.

I vote as if my ballot alone decided the contest. I may lose my preference, but I will not throw away my sacred vote. For within the booth I hold in my humble hand the living proxy of all my country’s honored dead.

As citizens, we must be assured that our vote is a sacred trust between our government and ourselves.  If we can not trust an honest vote then we can have no faith in the officials who have been installed into office and their authority to govern.
